Amidst the plethora of talent gracing The Voice Australia stage in recent seasons, many exceptional contestants have found themselves bidding farewell due to fierce competition. Among them was Lexi X, a gifted fifteen-year-old saxophonist and vocalist hailing from Brisbane, who participated in the twelfth season of the show.
Despite her undeniable talent, Lexi’s journey halted at the Battles stage. However, her blind audition, now boasting over a million views, remains a standout moment.
During her audition, Lexi delivered a poignant rendition of “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes, seamlessly blending her distinct vocal prowess with remarkable saxophone artistry. From the onset, all four judges were entranced. Jessica Mauboy, with eyes shut, absorbed every note, while Jason Derulo nodded in admiration. Rita Ora, unable to contain her excitement, found herself swaying to the music, thoroughly enchanted by Lexi’s performance.
It was no surprise when Rita became the first to hit her button, turning eagerly to catch a glimpse of Lexi’s youthful visage. Her astonishment at Lexi’s tender age was evident, prompting Jason to swiftly follow suit, vying to have Lexi join his team. Ultimately, Lexi chose to align with Rita, drawn by her evident enthusiasm for her musical style, alongside future champion Tarryn Stokes.
Rita’s discerning eye for talent extended to the five-piece boy band Overnight, also from season 12 of The Voice Australia. Their rendition of “Larger than Life” by the Backstreet Boys during their blind audition had Rita gleefully dancing in her seat, hitting her button mere seconds into their performance. Although all four judges were charmed by Overnight, the group ultimately opted to join Guy Sebastian’s team.
