Watching students perform at school talent shows is always a delight, whether they are singing, dancing, or displaying another talent. Every participant deserves admiration for bravely taking the stage, but occasionally, a performance stands out for its creativity and charm, transcending the performers’ young age.
In 2017, four fifth graders from New Braunfels Christian Academy in Texas delivered such a standout performance during their Elementary Talent Show. To keep their act a surprise until the last moment, the boys began covered in a black cloth. When they unveiled themselves, they revealed baby costumes complete with tiny prosthetic legs they manipulated with their arms. The crowd erupted in laughter, and the fun was just beginning.
The boys then danced humorously and inventively to several popular songs. They opened with Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” enthusiastically miming and dancing to the chorus. The crowd favorite was Carl Douglas’s “Kung Fu Fighting,” where the boys performed kung fu moves in their baby suits, earning cheers and applause from the audience.
This group of mischievous fifth graders isn’t alone in their ability to captivate a talent show audience. In 2014, eight fifth graders at Porter Elementary did something similar with a synchronized swimming routine. They performed to classical music on a blue plastic sheet serving as a makeshift pool, and their imaginative act earned them loud cheers and applause from the crowd.
These performances, which have collectively garnered over 30 million views online, highlight the impressive creativity and talent showcased at school talent events. Engaging an audience for even a few minutes is no small feat, but these young performers managed it effortlessly.
