Ingrid Andress Delivers Memorable National Anthem Performance at MLB Home Run Derby

Last night, country singer Ingrid Andress captivated the audience at the MLB Home Run Derby with her rendition of the national anthem.

Opinions varied widely, with some considering it one of the most unique, if not controversial, performances ever.

The four-time Grammy-nominated artist opened the Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with a rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” that will be talked about for years.

From the very first notes, it was evident that Andress’ version would leave a lasting impression.

Listen for yourself and see what you think.

Reactions poured in after the performance.

“I think we all owe Fergie an apology,” one person wrote, referencing Fergie’s much-criticized rendition of the national anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.

“Made Fergie sound like Whitney Houston.”

“Worst National Anthem I’ve ever heard. Just disrespectful.”

“I hope Ingrid Andress stays off social media for a while.”

“I’m sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I’ve ever heard in my life.”

There’s no doubt that “The Star-Spangled Banner” is an incredibly challenging song to perform. Perhaps, instead of risking potentially embarrassing live performances, venues should consider using recordings of one of the best versions of the national anthem, like Whitney Houston’s iconic rendition.
