Dolly Parton has enjoyed a long and immensely successful life in the spotlight.
The iconic singer’s talents have spanned decades and styles, making her a constant presence at the top of the entertainment industry for as long as many can remember.
However, even legends like Dolly face critics. Recently, she has received negative comments about her looks, despite being in her late seventies.
At 77, Dolly Parton is a household name in both country music and the broader celebrity world.
The Tennessee native has become a true legend, entertaining her legions of fans throughout her life.
In a recent interview with Pollystar, Dolly announced that she would no longer be touring. She explained:
“I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then. Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore.”
Having reached the pinnacle of global entertainment after growing up in poverty in the Appalachian Mountains, Dolly will certainly be missed on stage.
Despite her undeniable popularity, some people continue to criticize her appearance.
Since the start of her career, Dolly’s looks have been a point of contention. She has recalled people advising her to change her signature look if she wanted a serious career.
“The main advice that people wanted to give me was to change my look – to go simpler with my hair and the way that I dress,” she explained. “Not to look so cheap; nobody was ever going to take me seriously, they would say.”
Over the years, the mean comments have persisted. Some people feel even more justified in labeling Dolly in ways that seem wholly unfair.
One Twitter user wrote: “Dolly Parton is one ugly lady,” while another said: “Dolly Parton is so ugly, but she has nice breasts.”
Despite the unkindness and vitriol online, Dolly remains upbeat in her defiance. She is perfectly comfortable with her body and looks, and she isn’t about to change for anyone.
“It costs a lot of money to look this cheap,” she famously said.
Her husband has revealed in the past that he loves her no matter what.
“He doesn’t care if I’m fat,” said Parton. “He was never turned off. He’s fool enough to think I’m the sexiest, prettiest woman in the world.”
Unsurprisingly, Dolly remains hungry for success and new challenges. According to Rolling Stone, she is embracing her 2022 entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and aims to honor it by delivering an album that might be considered outside her usual genre.
Fans were thrilled last year when Dolly Parton was considered for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after her stellar career.
However, sources indicate that Dolly was initially reluctant to be part of the conversation for the honor. The Jolene singer felt that her career, mostly in country music, might make others more suitable for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Ultimately, the people spoke, and voters decided that Dolly deserved the honor. In November, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame and immediately set out to justify her selection.
I think Dolly Parton is incredibly talented!
