Prince Harry Obliged to Lodge in Hotel After Windsor Castle Plan Denied by Royal Family

Prince Harry is slated to make a visit to Britain next week. Scheduled for May 8, he will address a special event at St. Paul’s Cathedral commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. Founded by the Duke in 2014 during his time as a working royal, the Invictus Games provide a platform for wounded, injured, or sick armed services personnel and veterans to participate in nine sports, including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and indoor rowing.

Since being required to vacate Frogmore Castle following the passing of Queen Elizabeth, the Sussexes no longer maintain property in Britain.

This information was confirmed by a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan, who informed Vanity Fair, “We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”

Reportedly, the residence has been offered to Prince Andrew, who has resided in a 30-room Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park since 2003. However, Andrew is reportedly resistant to the King’s wish for him to relocate to Frogmore Cottage, according to The Sun.

A royal source quoted by The Sun remarked, “This surely spells the end of Harry and Meghan’s time in the UK.”

Royal expert and author Omid Scobie wrote that King Charles was “spitting mad” about Harry’s forthcoming book, a factor that likely influenced the decision to evict the prince. At the time, the relationship between Harry and his family had reached “an all-time low,” according to Scobie.

A friend of Harry and Meghan’s lamented, “It all feels very final and like a cruel punishment. It’s like [the family] wants to cut them out of the picture for good.”

Last month, it was revealed that Harry’s primary residence had shifted to the US, effectively severing his ties with the UK.

During his upcoming visit to Britain, Harry will be staying in hotels once again. His previous request to stay at Windsor Castle in September 2023 was denied by the Royal Family, citing insufficient notice.

Meghan is not expected to accompany Harry due to concerns for their children’s safety, as they were informed they would need to arrange their own security for any potential visit.

According to Charlotte Griffiths, Royal Editor for the Mail on Sunday, not having his family by his side may weigh heavily on Harry. She remarked, “It’s a really important part of Harry’s soul, and the kind of thing he’d want his wife, maybe even his kids by his side for.”

Reports indicate that no member of the Royal Family will attend the Invictus Games, although there is a possibility of Harry meeting with some family members, including his father, who reportedly wishes to reconnect.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams remarked to The Sun, “The King has always kept the door open to Harry, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he would invariably get a warm reception.”

He added, “It will take its time. But clearly the situation has changed in recent weeks beyond all expectations. I don’t think it would be too difficult, it depends how you define reconcile. I think there’s a long way to go before Harry is bringing over Meghan and the children.”
